This programme module aims to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence to care and manage a variety of animals under supervision in a veterinary care environment, understanding the use of preventative medical care and management in a variety of domestic and commercial animal care contexts.

Objectives of the Programme Module
To equip the learner with the clinical and professional skills to be an effective team member in the animal care workplace.
• To enable the learner to understand the principle of preventative healthcare and disease transmission specific to the species, breed and life stage of an animal.
• To develop the skills to recognise, assist in the use and maintain equipment, instruments and materials used in the Veterinary practice to diagnose and treat animals.
• To enable the learner to make a general assessment of an animal’s health and to understand the basis of first aid treatment and care.
• To assist the learner to develop the academic and vocational language, literacy and numeracy skills related to Veterinary Nursing through the medium of the indicative content
• To enable the learner to take responsibility for his/her own learning.
