This programme module aims to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence to care and manage a variety of animals under supervision in a veterinary care environment, understanding the use of preventative medical care and management in a variety of domestic and commercial animal care contexts. |
Objectives of the Programme Module • To equip the learner with the clinical and professional skills to be an effective team member in the animal care workplace. • To enable the learner to understand the principle of preventative healthcare and disease transmission specific to the species, breed and life stage of an animal. • To develop the skills to recognise, assist in the use and maintain equipment, instruments and materials used in the Veterinary practice to diagnose and treat animals. • To enable the learner to make a general assessment of an animal’s health and to understand the basis of first aid treatment and care. • To assist the learner to develop the academic and vocational language, literacy and numeracy skills related to Veterinary Nursing through the medium of the indicative content • To enable the learner to take responsibility for his/her own learning. |
