An excellent education received at Eagles Flying. The day started with the birds of prey show, where we got to see a variety of birds up close. These included different types of eagles, owls, vultures, kestrels, sparrow hawks and buzzards. For more information on the show please click here. The day continued with a trip to the on site pet farm where we viewed pot-bellied pigs, saddleback pigs, donkeys, ferrets, goats, peacocks and shetland ponies We then moved onto a dissection of a goat and concluded with individual rat dissections. Both these activities were extremely informative and linked well with our Animal Anatomy and Physiology module.

Just a quick review of trip to sheep farm today. Lots of information learned
(1)Treatment of lambs when born (use of iodine to disinfect navel, placing ring on tail, marking)
(2)Signs of lambing and problems which arise
(3)Bottle feeding lambs (correct use of colostrum and milk replacement)

There is a good programme currently on BBC 2 called Lambing Live. The first episode was on last night. It is very informative and well worth watching. Unfortunately you cannot watch online. Please click here for further information. Episode two is on this evening at 8pm. It is on every evening from now until Thursday. Please post any comments about the show if you wish
